Icarus’ Fugue is a theatrical creation, in the style of Commedia dell’Arte, full of carnival adventure, poetry, singing, dance, heart, and soul. Set in the present-day, this work is based on the Greek myth of the Flight of Icarus. In flying too close to the sun, Icarus realizes that only in his escape, though deadly, does he find himself. The play encourages audience participation in a fantastical world, where the audience members themselves can take flight. In flight, we come to realize who we really are.
“Here, I feel conditioned by a place where love is vastly lacking, where I cannot do what my soul desires. My longing to escape is like a great breath of fire in my hearth” – Icarus to his father,Icarus’ Fugue 2020
